A cosmic fairy moves at the speed of thought through interstellar space. Her body and her being are manifest as living light.

As a child I would sometimes have dreams about erie dark spaces where all the creatures were lit up like neon. Butterflies and other insects would fly around lighting up the dark. Some of these images with bioluminescent creatures reminds of those dreams.

Necrotic Fairy

An ancient fairy who’s youth and beauty has crystalized over the millennia into a unique and powerful form. Her delicate hands penetrate like needles and her wordless song attracts bone butterflies from the necrotic garden to accompany her. Severed heads swing like pendulums around her as she moves silently through space.

This image was a technical breakthrough for me. It’s almost as if no matter how close up you look the image continues to reveal increasing levels of detail. The Necrotic Fairy is one of my favorite examples of a very particular flavor of character that seems to haunt me and my artwork.

Aria

This painting had it’s public debut at the Tampa Bay FL Tattoofest. Each year I create a new image as the poster for this tattoo culture event.

Once again I was inspired to work with Aria Giovanni as the model for this antique looking fairy. Aria is a world famous pinup model and a classic beauty. She has been the subject of many of my images. There is something about her that easily embodies epic mythological characters. Something about this pose had me drawing from baroque and art deco influences.

This original life size painting was finished with windsor newton acrylic pigments and a protective gloss clear coat on archival artist canvas. A unique combination of modern digital, as well as classical hand painted techniques were employed to achieve a highly rendered style. For me, the modern sensibility of this painting is entirely new and yet somehow reminicent of Alphonse Mucha’s Art Nouveau, as well as Carravaggio and other renaissance masters who have influenced my work.

Spring

This was a breakthrough image for me as I was discovering new ways to combine digital and traditional media. The original image was created digitally and then printed on to artist canvas that I spent weeks detailing by hand. The final product is a hybrid digital and acrylic painting.

The goddess of Spring waits patiently for winter to end when she will emerge and spread green glory for all the world. She wears a gothic crown of thorns like a halo while roses paint her flesh with splashes of flowering pink. Spring is a celebration of the season of new growth and new life. She is an angel, a fairy and a nature spirit. She defies classification as a creative expression of life itself.

The model (who is now my wife) has inspired me to create an incredible range of characters since I was 18 years old. The spiritual love connection between Shay and I has moved me to explore images of beauty as well as broken hearted isolation. We have been together and apart through our many years and all along the way I have been making works of art as an expression of my heart.

Wasp

This image was created as the poster for the world famous TattooFest of Tampa, FL. There is a crisp realism to this piece that I loved exploring. To me, she seems like she could leap out from the surface of the image and into real three dimensional space.

Wasp was inspired by Sera Ciminno who appears as the model in some of my favorite images. When working with Sera she takes on the personality of all kinds of imaginary characters and pretends to be a fairy, or a devil or a strange alien creature. The expressive qualities of her modeling inspires all kinds of exciting ideas. Sera has quite a few fans who come to me asking for more.

I have done posters for the Tampa TattooFest for nearly 15 years and Sera has appeared as the character model twice. I love working with her and have a feeling she’ll be appearing on future posters as well.
